Center for Cardiac Imaging Services announces the opening of Advanced Interventional Cardiovascular Lab.
Heart disease is one our nation's most common health problems-the leading cause of death for Americans age 35 and older. Introducing advancements in the medical technology used to diagnose and treat this condition is more critical than ever before at the Center for Cardiac and Imaging Services at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. In an effort to help its physicians provide faster and more efficient cardiac care to area residents, Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab from Philips.
The Center for Cardiac and Imaging Services will now be able to conduct minimally invasive procedures on this new system to treat a wide range of clinical problems including coronary artery disease - a leading cause of heart disorders in the U.S. These catheter-based procedures may reduce the risks and recovery time found in traditional surgical approaches. The benefits of catheter-based interventions include shorter hospital stays, reduced recovery time without the pain of a large incision, and less visible surgical scarring. These procedures can be performed on both the heart and peripheral blood vessels. Specifically, Heart of Florida's Center for Cardiac and Imaging Services will use the Allura Xper FD20 X-ray system from Philips. This fully digital system enables physicians to capture and view detailed 3D images of a patient's cardiac vasculature, thereby facilitating faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease. Also important, the Allura system exposes patients to less radiation during the actual procedures than many other available systems. “Both our patients and clinicians will benefit from the speed and excellent image accuracy of this new X-ray system,” explained Michele Wetzel, Director of Cardiovascular Services at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. “It will allow our physicians to complete a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures faster, and that means the patient is off the procedure bed and on their way to recovery and discharge much sooner. It also means less radiation exposure for the patient.” This flexible system can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of patient conditions and can be used for procedures such as diagnostic catheterizations, stenting, and balloon angioplasty. “Interventional X-ray technology is a vital component in the future of medicine,” said Richard Fabian, Vice President, Diagnostic Imaging, Philips Medical Systems, North America. “We are happy that the Allura system is offering clinicians at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center a new level of quality and detail in the clinical images that help them to offer patients safe and effective alternatives to major surgery.” Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center is located on Highway 27 in Haines City, Florida.
